DORIAN, OSWALD, ADAMS
41 - MORPH - MALE - ? ? ? - PRAVUS - COUNCIL MEMBER
ABOUT THE PLAYER:
OOC Account: Luna_Cat16
What do you wish to be called?: Luna
Other Characters: yes
Link to your previous character: Xerneas
BASIC INFORMATION:
Full Name: Dorian Oswald Adams
Nickname(s): Dori, Dor, Fluffy, Pravus's Personal Perfume Parlor
Gender: Male
Age: 41
Allegiance: Pravus
Occupation (Position) : Council Member. He does Pokemon Contests on the side when he can.
Species: Aromatisse Pokemorph
PHYSICAL APPEARANCE:
Face Claim: Watase Sanetoshi (Mawaru Penguindrum)
Hair color and hair style: A bright pink color. It is of a very feathery, soft, and voluminous texture, which make it a bit difficult to handle in the mornings, especially at the long length (down past his shoulders) he has it at now. He typically wears it in a sort of messy ponytail.
Eye Color: Pink, but very close to red.
Height: 5'8
Build: His build is more on the heavier side, and also more rotund in shape.
Skintone: Pale, though in certain lighting it can appear to look a pastel pink at times.
Other Appearance Information: Dori is at the highest rungs of society, but it's a bit difficult to tell sometimes. He doesn't walk like he has a ruler for a spine, and his soft, higher-toned voice uses fairly ordinary language. He doesn't even look like he's 41 either, as the morphing process seems to have altered his appearance to something more suited for someone in their early 30s than anything. He'll always greet someone with a gentle smile and a wave of his hand. The best way to tell is probably in the clothes he wears. His business suits are of the finest quality, and all of his casual outfits are from top-tier fashion brands. He prefers monochrome outfits, and also ones of a less tight build -- the tighter ones don't look so good on him nowadays and black and white shades always bring out that stunning pink shade of his hair and eyes.
His face is clear and bright, lacking any significant blemishes. His facial features surprisingly escaped the majority of the morphing process, though some say that the faintest lines of an Aromatisse's white mask can be seen around his eyes and nose. His eyelashes are perhaps a bit longer, thicker, and darker in shade than one would expect, but it looks more like he wears mascara than anything. Other than that, he looks ordinary, with glittering expressive eyes and full cheeks. Then there are his ears. These have morphed completely into the long, tufted pink ears of the Fairy type, with downy yellow fur on the insides, protecting that area from annoyances. They are higher up on his head, and rather expressive in nature, perking up when alert, flopping downwards when sad, or flattening themselves against the side of his head when angry.
Once one looks downwards they'll see the rest of his morph features. Down towards the bottom of his neck and the beginning of his collar magenta fur begins to grow. It's fluffy and full in texture, and it covers almost all of his body. It's probably a miracle that his face didn't complete the transformation into some kind of Muppet. The somewhat unruly fur goes all the way down his arms and covers his hands too, and are the reason for him wearing gloves most of the time. Thankfully, the fur on his hands is shorter and more tame. At his fingertips are tiny, white claws, with surprisingly pointy ends.
At his mid and lower chest the magenta fur stops, and is instead replaced by another variety of fluff that Dori has grown to despise. Here the pink fuzz of an Aromatisse puffs out in a thicker density and longer length than the magenta fur, which gives his figure much more of a round or even apple-shaped appearance. He can't shave it off, and trimming it hasn't worked. On the bright side, it is of an extremely soft and pleasant texture, and his Pokemon do love snuggling in it at times.
The pink fluff goes to the hips and ends there, and the legs resume the typical endowment of magenta fluff. His feet are unusual in that their structure has changed to be far more like paws than like human feet, with four toes, small claws similar to the ones on his fingers (except these can be sheathed), and pads of bare skin under them. Luckily, they have not grown extremely small and have retained a similar form to normal feet, so he is still capable of wearing shoes. Or just being able to walk normally.
While not quite visible, another notably mark of his appearance is his fragrances. Being an Aromatisse morph, he always gives off the scent of some sort of fragrance, whether it be like perfume or like herbs or even like the crisp scent of a cold autumn day. He is not able to control it, however, and it highly depends on his mood. On some foul days you will be able to tell when he's coming not by the scent of roses, but by the odor of something that's been dead for weeks in a stuffy attic.
He does have a sort of mid form between Pokemon and morph, but he prefers not to use it. In this form he grows about a foot shorter, and his figure seems to be almost squished on itself, with a nearly non-existent neck, a very short upper chest, and shorter legs. His build is also thicker, and he appears to be almost hunchbacked from the difficulty of holding himself up. His hands lose their definition, and he only has three small fingers. The fur also spreads, growing out of the sides of his face in tufts, and his hair gains a magenta color, and becomes nearly indistinguishable with the fur. The most notable thing, however, would be his mask, which grows out and covers part of his face. It looks exactly like the one you would see on the Pokemon, including the same red, lashed eyes and the hooked nose, but Dorian's mouth still is visible.
PERSONALITY:
Likes:
- Beauty - Dorian is a true aesthete. He appreciates the value of the "feminine" or majestic or just plain visually wonderful in everything. It can make people laugh, cry, stare in wonder (and envy), and move even the hardest of hearts. He doesn't want to pull a Team Flare and try to create a "beautiful world". On the other hand, he just wants to make people appreciate the beauty that already exists.
- Peaceful Populaces - Happy masses make for a happy state. He really just wants everyone to be able to be satisfied with Pravus. If there's no fighting there's no war or skirmishes or brawls or what have you, and families stay together and people don't get abused for no good reason. A good day for him is one where he can take a stroll through the city and not worry about getting assaulted, and everyone around him is happy and content with their lives.
- His Pokemon - His team has been with him through all of his life, and he's never had to let anyone go or lose anyone. At this point they're the last of his family. They appreciate his deepest concerns and know some of his darkest secrets, but despite that they still love and understand him. There's also the fact that they're the best fighters and most lovely contestants ever.
- Apples - He and Paprika's first activity together was to plant an apple tree in the backyard of his house when he was a kid. Now, even after all these years, he still loves the fruit. They're succulent and sweet while being healthy to eat. His favorite kinds are Red Delicious.
- Pravus - He works for them. He is one of the top leaders in the organization. How could he not like Pravus. In all seriousness, he has complete confidence in the organization, despite the few blunders made recently, which he has full confidence that they will be fixed.
- The Cliffs - It might be a ruined husk of his childhood, but this is a bit of a bittersweet liking. Once every few months or so he'll take the trip out to visit the spot where his old home was. He'll sit by the makeshift grave, lay down his flowers, and just do nothing but think in silence for a couple of hours. It helps him clear his mind a lot.
- Psychology - Dorian is fascinated in what makes people tick. This was one of his majors in college for a reason. He just loves how the mind works in ways that actually have patterns and can be predicted. He can figure people out, and figure himself out in the process.
- Crime Shows - What he spends most of his free time at home doing. For some reason accounts of the darker elements of the world are the most entertaining to him. He definitely wants to hear about the twins who used their Meowstics to commit widespread arson, and about the Muk morph who used his poison to kill his own patients. He could ramble on about the twists and how fascinating these shows are for hours. Unfortunately that tends to disturb people.
Dislikes:
- War - War took away his family, and his home, and did the same for thousands of others in Remoor. War is the worst possible outcome to any situation for him. Nothing good ever comes of it, no matter how many times others say it's for some kind of "greater cause". Anything that involves weapons and fighting is not how to solve things.
- Anti-PRA Advocates - He may be Pravus, but he also has a huge soft spot for Pokemon. While the whole PRA issue is a huge political mess he tries to help out as much as he can, even if he can only help so much. Thus, he doesn't get how people could be against Pokemon Rights in the first place while trying to retain some semblance of a good reputation as a human being.
- Neglect/Abuse - Or, more specifically, to see people in such conditions. Dori is not only someone concerned with his own upkeep, but also the upkeep of others. If someone is not able to take care of themselves, or no one is taking care of them or even doing harm, then he'll feel nigh-obliged to take those poor souls out of their bad situations and give them a good pampering up with whatever they needed. He has the money, after all.
- Moral Stiffness - Dorian is a bit Machivellian in nature. To him, the means (most of the time) justify the ends. That's why he dislikes it when someone's moral up-righteousness gets in the way of moving towards a better goal. Yes, brainwashing isn't exactly the prettiest solution, but will any of the alternatives keep the violent criminal from falling out of society again?
- Political Conflict - Ugh, infighting. They're all one big, kind of happy Pravus family. Why does everyone have to keep bickering over the smallest of issues? He just wants to gather them all in a room and make them all have very intelligent discussions. Actually, he wants to do that with all of Nada. Maybe then people would actually start thinking.
- His Morph - He did not want to be turned into a puffball. He did not want to become Pravus's Personal Perfume Parlor. He did not want to throw away half of his outfits because they wouldn't fit him anymore. Going into a full form is incredibly awkward because he has no idea how to walk on those tiny legs and it is just irritating. On the bright side, he did get rid of the possibility of grey streaks for a while longer.
- Dirtiness - He is a bit of a clean freak. Seeing anything, or anyone, streaked with filth will give him the sudden urge to clean it off as soon as possible. It's for this reason that he doesn't visit the slums. It's only a reminder of the poverty and suffering others have to go through.
- Sweets - Chocolate does not count for this. However, everything else sugary is a horrible-tasting abomination to Dori. They make his taste buds hurt, they have no health benefits, and the only thing they're good for is arranging them in a pretty pattern and taking a picture.
Strengths:
- Persuasive - Dorian has a way with words. He can twist them to sound as positive as possible for his own ends, no matter what they might involve. After all, people trust that friendly face of his, and giving off a calming aroma helps as well. A few people say that he makes jumping off a cliff a perfectly acceptable and even enjoyable proposal.
- Selflessness - He's been through a lot in his life, and as a result has a whole lot of empathy for others because of this. He's really only gotten where he is now, in a comfortable position on the council, because of other people. He has no problem with helping most of just about anyone out, even if he hasn't even met them. Of course, there are a few exceptions for some particularly annoying beings, but he does prefer to put personal opinion aside in these situations.
- Battle/Contest Skills - While it's not his actual job, he is just as good at putting on a show as he is at decimating other Pokemon teams. Battling is just as much of an art as contests are to him, and as a result he makes sure to train his Pokemon's performances to fluid perfection.
- Morph - The Fairy type morphing, as most of those sorts tend to do, extended his lifespan a bit and also acted as a slight bit of an anti-aging measure. In addition, many of the fragrances he exudes have a slight psychological influence, whether it be calming, alerting, or otherwise. There's also the fact that no infected will be getting through that thick fluff coat of his anytime soon.
- Able to Read People - Dorian is good at noticing the slight shifts of a person's body in nervousness, or the specific inclination of the voice, or the subtle change of expression in someone's eyes. He can tell when people actually want something and when they don't, or he is at least very accurate in such readings. He is also capable of understanding the reason behind the changes in attitude, and he can use that to his advantage.
Weaknesses:
- Idealist - He tends to think in a manner too positive and too simplistic, at times. The best result cannot always be obtained in the end, or as fast as he wants it to happen. His views of what a better society would be can alienate others, and he'll have no idea why. Sometimes he needs to be reminded about current problems that need to be solved, rather than focusing on the distant future of perfection.
- Morally Bankrupt (partially) - He does have good intentions, he certainly does. But experimenting on non-consenting criminals in a way that would probably kill them to gather more research, or to forever lock someone's individuality away in a psychic lobotomy are not exactly the best ways to fulfill these intentions. He keeps these views private, as he knows that society is not ready for them yet, but for some reason he sees nothing wrong with some of the most inhumane tactics ever.
- Insecure - Mostly because of the morph. He heavily admires "traditional" standards of beauty, and becoming a fuzzy ball of perfume did not help one bit. Pointing out something negative about his fragrances makes him terribly embarrassed, and calling to attention the fluff or his heavier-than-average weight sends him into an outright tizzy. He is terribly shallow that way.
- Bleeding Heart - Sometimes he can be a bit too empathetic. He lets his guard down for sob stories when they aren't related to Pravus business, and if you tell a good enough one he'll believe it completely. His Pokemon are fairly certain that he's been weaseled out of a good amount of his money because of these sorts of folks, and they warn him to be cautious, but every time he just says that he couldn't possible refuse such a poor, pitiful soul.
- Morph - First of all, he is rather unable to control the aromas he emits. Sometimes it will actually work his way when he needs to calm someone down and the fragrance matches. At other times he'll be feeling down and start to smell like a wet dog. It ruins his clothes. Secondly, he is prone to absolute misery in hot weather, and he still has a very awkward time in his full form due to not using it much at all.
Personality:
- Empathetic/Caring - While his opponents may hoist him up as some kind of amoral and apathetic chessmaster, the latter could not be any farther from the truth. Dorian loves people. Unlike some manipulative bastards who are completely unaffected by their ability to understand others, Dorian is very much a sensitive heart in that regard. He just feels for the plight of others, and wants to help out in any possible way he can. He's concerned for the well-being of others completely, putting their regards far before his. If it's cold, he'll offer his jacket to someone he sees on the street with only a threadbare shirt. If he has food with him, he'll give it away to the Pokemon living in the alleys. There are too many people that truly need the surpluses his living gives him.
- Clever - He is one smart cookie. He is not the most intelligent in the academic field, owing most of his A's to a lot of hard work and late nights. However, when it comes to matters that require reading over policies and observing public opinion and the like, he seems to excel. He always gives that look of having some sort of trick up his sleeve, as if he's far more than just a semi-flamboyant humanitarian. Such an assumption would be very true. Otherwise, how could he be in one of the most powerful positions in Nada? His mind is always juggling with various thoughts and ideas. Just when you think you have the upper hand in an argument he'll be able to sniff out some sort of counter.
- Enthusiastic/Outgoing - Dorian tends to get very excited about things. It doesn't matter if it's winning a fight, getting his hands on something pretty, his favorite sports team coming out on top of a match, or just being able to talk to someone else about his favorite shows. He'll still start gabbing on all the same. He just loves the art of conversation, even if the other has no idea what he's going on about, at which point he'll immediately start explaining, usually through a long tangent. It isn't even that he's an irredeemable rambler, and his words usually don't drag on for long. He just knows how to kick up a topic and keep it going for a good while, though they do tend to be a bit self-centered.
- Aesthete/Vain - He truly is one for the material world, at least in the appreciation of it. He dabbles in fashion, interior decorating, and all sorts of style-oriented hobbies (though he must admit that he's horrible at cooking). He tries to see the beauty in everything, both external and internal, and most importantly focuses on perfecting that beauty in himself. Unfortunately, this can tend to him being a bit...shallow at times. He spends a large chunk of time just trying to figure out what clothes he looks best in. He could go on for hours about himself, but forget to ask others how their days are. He can also be a bit condescending, though in more of a patriarchal manner than an elitist one.
- Charismatic - There's just something about Dorian that does tend to draw people towards him (or not, but he does get a wee bit offended at that). It might be in the way he has such a kind and honest smile when he speaks, or it might be a rather attractive fragrance he is exuding. Either way, people do turn their heads when he talks. Of course, he knows this, and he does do his best to take advantage of it. His words seem directed right at you, even if he might be addressing a crowd of fifty people. He does have such a good reputation after all, so why question what he says? He's the man who worked his way up from a poor home by the cliffs to become one of Pravus's greatest figures, and he deserves the respect.
BACKGROUND:
History:
Dorian was born into a family that wasn't exactly the wealthiest, or the most fortunate, or the most functional. They lived in the region by the cliffs, which back then was ripe with green grass and the occasional small groups of trees. They lived in a small house, with a small yard, and a backyard that looked out onto the ocean, with a tree to hang a tire swing from and a small garden with ripe tomatoes. In this family was his father and his mother, though his other siblings wouldn't arrive for a while.
Dorian's father worked with the military, and he and his Machoke went out every day to an industrial facility to help build things like guns and tanks, and then they would come back every night. His father was the no-nonsense, traditionalist sort of man, who had grown up in poverty and had only made enough steps to assure that his family would be slightly above that line. He was strict, and the definite head of the household, and while he could almost seem like too much of an alpha male to have other emotions, he did generally want the best for his family.
Dorian's mother was what most people think of when they hear the word housewife. Small and meek, the woman was of course strong enough physically to clean and cook and do light yardwork, but she wasn't the strongest in the mental or emotional field. She was a pushover most of the time, and tended to just go along with whatever her husband said. However, there were some matters that she was surprisingly stubborn over, especially when it came to the children. If she were the only parent none of the kids would have gotten any discipline at all, and when her husband thought they needed a good talking to, she would always step in to defend the children, even if they did actually need punishment.
The two married early, only a few years after graduating high school. They then immediately got to work with creating a family of their own. The husband had some difficulty finding a job, but eventually placed in army manufacturing. It wasn't too much money, but it was enough to afford the small house, and a new arrival. A few years after they married they were blessed with Dorian, a bright-eyed baby boy. The pregnancy was without complication, and from the moment they saw him they knew that getting a tire swing set up was now one of their top priorities.
Dorian's early life was spent in happiness. The family had its share of problems, but they were always kept away from the child. Instead he got to play around the suburb-esque town, spending most of his days outside playing rather than in the rather small, but cozy, insides of his house. One of his greatest dreams was to be a Pokemon master, much like many of the small children of that day. Unfortunately, his parents did not want to spend the money on a Pokemon that would likely end up like most childhood Pokemon, becoming a pet and just being another mouth to feed. Still, the child pressed on.
Finally his parents relented, and decided to obtain a Pokemon that would be useful around the home as well as a good playmate. This was where Paprika came in. The young Chikorita was bought both to placate Dorian and for his usefulness. His vines could help in cleaning the house, or in tending the little garden full of vegetables and fruit they had in the back. He and Dorian became best friends very quickly. His quiet nature helped to balance out some of Dorian's more wild traits, and he also was not averse to the idea of battling.
Dorian's childhood and school years were spent without much trouble in the slightest. He excelled in Math, and in his free time he tried to train with his Pokemon and build a team of his own, which, by the time he was in middle school, now included Anise and Oregano. Sadly, he was not exactly the best of potential trainers. He didn't win too many battles, though that might have been because he just had no idea what strategy to use. Seeing this, his parents discouraged him from following the typical path of a trainer and dropping out of school to fight, and usually run out of money.
And so Dorian's path seemed to be set for getting good grades and going to college for a steady job. However, at his current stage in life he had a bit more to worry about than just his career path. He was starting to question his own interests. It wasn't anything so drastic as sexuality -- he was raised in an environment where he didn't even know such questioning existed. It was just the fact that, unlike most boys his age, he did not want to play baseball, or wrestle about, or watch the latest Pokemon brawls. He began to look towards the more aesthetic things instead, or even the more 'girly' sorts. He didn't want to slouch about in a t-shirt and jeans. He wanted to wear something with a bit more style. Of course, he was far too embarrassed to let anyone know. Back then, in his neighborhood, he could become a laughingstock for quite a while. He'd be 'too girly' for anyone to take seriously -- especially his father, who wanted him to grow up to be a strong man, whatever that meant.
Apart from suppressing his urge to give half of his friends a good talking to about whatever the hell they were wearing, Dorian passed through middle and high school swimmingly. He gained an interest in economics, and was accepted into a fairly high-level college on a scholarship. His family was extremely proud. College was also a place to start over. Mindsets were far more open here, much to Dorian's pleasure. He went from being much like any other stereotypical male to finally being able to show off his far more...flamboyant self. He was also introduced to contests during his time at college, and was fascinated by them. It was a way to turn battling into a true art and a true beauty, and coincided quite well with his interests. He caught Thyme during this time, and began to train more frequently, this time focusing on refining his battling into art.
Dorian grew far better at battling now that he started to temper his own style, and visits back at home also went over well. His father was a bit confused by his son talking about such odd subjects, but he didn't disapprove of it at all. Dorian was still his son, even if he acted like a girl over properly washing up in the morning. At age 20, the household also received a surprise, though not the best of kinds. There had been a horrible fire in a nearby town, and one of the families had been all but wiped away, except for an infant girl. They needed someone to give the child a home, as her relatives were all but gone. The child, named Avis, became a part of the family. Dorian would find himself growing quite attached to his little sister as the years went on.
Dorian graduated from college, and went on to business school. It was during this time that he encountered Pravus. One of his professors was in with them, as were a few of his classmates. Their existence was quite tempting, especially their apparent demand for those experienced in finance.
