With survival comes change.
When the ashes had finally settled and the isle succumbed once more to silence, the devastation became apparent. Nothing would ever be as it once was. The very fabric of Reykjavik had been altered, not even the land they had stood upon was the same. Tremors from deep under the sea combined with the disastrous prowess of the volcano bursting with all its ferocity had literally tore the island apart. What once had been one large land mass were now four islets. One moderately sized chunk and three smaller chunks just off the coast from one another, a mere quarter mile separating each from the other’s shores. In time, the savagery of nature prevailed, regaining the lush appearance it once had. The strange oceanic coral which surrounded Reykjavik made the watery channels between islands all but placid lagoons no deeper than a few feet. Small mammals and flocking birds returned, their memories bearing nothing of the travesty that had become Reykjavik. However no horses stirred in the swaying grasses, no hoof prints bore a testament to their nomadic ways.
But horses would know Reykjavik again.[/color]
And when they came they brought with them a new outlook on survival, determination burning in their eyes. No longer did they seek to band together in loosely knit herds, it simply seemed primitive, the ways of a distant time. From the masses three leaders would rise to lead their followers to one of the secluded islets. And within these strongholds they would build a nation unlike any Reykjavik has ever seen. Warriors would lay siege to their enemies; ambassadors would seek out alliances among the strongholds. And greed, revenge, and yes, even love would spark an ever growing flame of unrest and suspicion, pitting these newly built and unstable kingdoms against each other. Reykjavik had survived nature’s unforgiving wrath. But will the very horses who had breathed life back into this sacred place be the ones to destroy it once more?
