Plotting On Remoor
Many of you have been requesting information and help for how to "plot" on Remoor. Having heard your feedback, we decided to create this thread, and we hope that it will help clear up any questions you have!
On Remoor, while we do have an overarching site plot and setting, much of the interactions between characters take place in smaller, more private plots. These plots can concern almost any subject, though major plots that can effect the whole site do need to be looked over by staff. Your characters can meet up in a store, complain about work, and have friendly training battles, among many other topics. On the more major scale great friendships, vivid rivalries, and even romances can blossom.
Plots can occur between characters who have never even met each other, and you simply decide to set up a scenario and see what happens. Sometimes a player may want some different types of established relationships for their character, and you may end up having them as a part of your character's past. Plots also occur in the form of "wanted characters", requests for certain important, though usually established, figures for another character.
With this great variation in plots, you'd wonder just how they come about, and how you can get in on them. This is what the plot board is for. Members create plot threads, with summaries of their characters, what they're looking for in various relationships, and what types of plot they might be interested in. In plot threads you can plan out possible meet-ups between your characters and their characters, possible relationships, and generally advertise your character for others. Being primarily planning threads, most of the interaction does, of course, take place during IC threads, and sometimes over various chat and IM programs.
Threads can be made in any number that you can handle. Remoor has a liquid time system, meaning that you are the one responsible for keeping track of your character's timeline. You could be participating in the site plot, but have two other threads taking place before said participation, and you would not be penalized. You can thread with as many other people as you would like as well.
The types of threads that can be made vary. You can make closed threads, between only you and another character, usually for more private plots. You can open your thread up to invitation from others if you wish to spice things up. You can also make open threads, where you do not plan who will participate, but instead wait to see who bites! You can see the sidebar for our current listings of open threads.
NOTE: Many open threads become closed or invites after a full "round" of posts is completed, as in Character 1 posts, then Character 2, then Character 1 again. Before you decide to jump in at that point, please ask.
Below this point are some common questions and answers.
PLOTTING FAQ
There may be quite a few reasons; none of them are indicative of you being disliked. Some of the more common ones are listed below.
- An illegible plot thread – If members cannot read your plotter, due to its colors or formatting, they will not reply. Avoid overuse of things such as mandatory hovers, thin boxes, small text, and overuse of bright color. These things, while fine in moderation, can end up overwhelming when used in tandem.
- Being unobtrusive on the site – People want to plot with someone they feel is active. If they rarely see you, as you avoid the chat and c-box, they might assume you’re inactive. Post in open-threads, talk in the general board, and generally make yourself known.
- Allowing the other half to face all obstacles – If you do not put in some effort yourself, such as posting in the threads of others, it Is unlikely something will come your way.
- Not linking your profiles – If you do not link your profiles in your posts, or at least give an easy way to find them, people might not know anything about your characters.
- The Characters – If your character is a bit sheltered, rarely leaving one area, it might just take a little longer to find something..

There are a few reasons you might find yourself having difficulties formulating plot ideas. You may be overcomplicating the process. The ideas do not have to be super complex. It can be something as simple as a random meeting. Sometimes it may just be a bad character match-up, where you can't think of any reason for them to interact in any way. Also try to broaden your horizon for plot types. If you only look for friends and positive relationships in plots, you are shutting out a plethora of other interesting plots to participate in. If you still have difficulties, look at the following links.[/ul]
That's perfectly fine. We can't expect thread with at every member on the site, after all. We also can't expect you to have a lot threads-- that'd be quite difficult to keep up with! We do definitely encourage you to step outside your box and get to know different members, but that's no reason to avoid plotting with some of your favorite RP partners. Just try to make sure you're not plotting with only those select few.[/ul]
We would highly discourage you from doing this. We have a board for character extras, where you can write stories on your own involving your characters. We also have an option for you to make training threads with yourself. However, this is a community site. RPs with other people are practically expected. If you have major plots or characters planned to be involved with yours, then why not try to put them out as requests? In this way you can dictate the character as much as you please, and still have a great RP partner to interact with. Some things, such as a small child, spouses, or minor relatives, can be NPCed. We just believe, if it is a vital plot, that interacting with others might be more enjoyable. [/ul]
If you find you are having difficulties getting plots with a certain character, there are some steps you can take. Move this character to the front of the plot threads. Hide any of those you do not want to have plots; you can usually do this with a spoiler tag. Try to give them some interesting plot outlines. If none of those works, for various reasons, it might be best to expand their horizons a bit.[/ul]
These two questions are a worry for many RPers.
The answer is simply in time schedules. Some members might be busy with school, and need to respond more slowly. They may have many threads already to reply to, and are working on those. Communication is the key here. Please read your partners RP thread to see if they have any mention of their usual posting time; this can vary by member. Check to see if they've posted hiatuses, or if their plot threads have anything about their current schedules. For members who want to avoid being overwhelmed, boundaries must be set. Ask for people to not reply for a certain amount of time, or limit the amount of threads you create. These possible solutions will definitely help prevent stress.[/ul]
The thread might not be working out for either party. In this case, just tell them you're no longer interested, or ask if they wish to continue. If it's clear that the thread cannot be completed in this state, you can request for it to be archived. On Remoor, we prefer to preserve threads rather than delete them. That way, if the muse for that thread returns, you can request for it to be removed from the archives and continued. Just move on to the next plot.[/ul]
