OLIVER, CLARKE, FONTAINE
21 - HUMAN - MALE - BISEXUAL - NEUTRAL - LIBRARIAN
ABOUT THE PLAYER:
OOC Account: Chibi
What do you wish to be called?: Chibi
Other Characters: None yet; still working on Vicenzo.
BASIC INFORMATION:
Full Name: Oliver Clarke Fontaine.
Nickname(s): Ollie.
Gender: Male.
Age: 21.
Allegiance: N/A.
Occupation (Position): Librarian.
Species: Human.
PHYSICAL APPEARANCE:
Hair color and hair style: Golden-blond; somewhat messy, since any attempts to brush it result in his hair going every which way.
Eye Color: Dark red.
Height: 5’5”
Build: Lithe, with a thin line of muscles.
Skintone: Pale.
Other Appearance Information: Oliver is a tall and lanky young man, rather thin for someone his age. He looks a bit willowy for being tall and slender, with very little muscle mass. Compared to other males his age, he looks rather small and unnoticeable. He doesn’t really have the upper body strength of a fighter, but rather someone who’s used to being indoors and doing menial tasks, such as working in the library – which includes his stamina, because let’s face it. A Butterfree could knock him over without even trying. He has quite fair skin that doesn’t tan too well, as he sunburns easily; he has some freckles, but they’re faint.
He has bright, gold-blond hair that is not always seen, which is long and cut unevenly. It’s long enough to be considered messy, but he manages to make it look neat before a long day messes it up again. He looks younger than his 21 years, but when he speaks you know he’s older – even if he talks in a constant stutter. The unusual color of his eyes, which is a dark red, is his most prominent feature. His emotions are always clearly displayed there, even when he doesn’t mean to do it.
His clothing style is rather casual, though he tries to often dress in order to blend in. This doesn’t usually work, especially during his job, and when he’s stopped by random passersby on the street. He prefers plain over colorful, though he often sports a scarf that is wrapped around his throat, which has become more of his trademark than anything else.

Personality:
- Charitable -- Oliver has a kind heart, and he more often than not gives what's in his pocket to some poor soul on the street. He's the kind of person who will donate food and money and whatever else to help someone.
- Empathetic -- He is very understanding when it comes to people's problems, and he'll do all that he can to help solve it. He listens to all sides of a situation before proposing his own opinion, and he's very non-judgmental.
- Shy/Introverted -- As kind and understanding as Oliver is, there's one thing that doesn't change about him. His shyness. He's naturally shy, and doesn't often start conversations unless someone starts talking to him. He stutters constantly and keeps his emotions to himself and never seems sure of what to say, and it's when he gets to know someone well that he becomes more confident.
- Loyal -- If there is one thing about Oliver that is quite descriptive of his character, it is his loyalty. He is fiercely loyal to those he calls his friends, and will never do anything against that. His loyalty is unwavering.
- Protective -- You might be surprised to find that Oliver is very protective as well. Even as shy as he is, he'll make sure his friends and who he considers his family are safe, even if that means he has to battle against another person. He won't let people push around his friends. Not if he can help it.
- Bookish -- Having been surrounded by books all of his life, Oliver is very bookish but knowledgeable. He can pull facts out of the air when asked (or rather, stutter out his answers when he's nervous), and has a general pool of facts about practically every subject. He looks every part of a bookish and awkward librarian.
- Stubborn -- Oliver is very stubborn, just as much as he is loyal. He doesn't like changing his opinion once it's made, and while he won't exactly push his opinions on anyone else, he'll happily debate his point of view and refuse to change it.
- Patient -- He's as patient as they come, with having to deal with his brothers and all the people he encounters at the library. It's hard to make him angry, since he has the patience of a saint, but when he is mad, you better watch it. His temper is just as hard to match.
- Naive -- Oliver hasn't been too exposed to what Remoor can really hold, and in this way he's completely naive to the horrors that happen in Pravus. He just thinks that Pravus are bad people who do bad things, and wonders why they haven't been stopped yet. He's curious about it, but he doesn't want to get too close. He's completely innocent when it comes to the matters of the world.
- Skittish -- Continuing from his shy nature, Oliver is scared easily. Be it a loud noise, or someone jumping out in front of him, or facing a huge spider, he'll probably either scream or faint. Or run away. Or a combination of the three. He's not exactly the bravest person around.
- Methodic -- He likes to take his time when it comes to practically everything. Oliver pays careful attention to detail, and while he's slow when it comes to completing things, he looks over his work many times before he deems it perfect. More often than not, it's because of his careful nature that things turn out for the better.
- Optimistic -- Oliver is extremely optimistic, almost overly so. Nothing seems to be able to bring him down, and he's always smiling serenely as he goes about his duties at the library. He hardly ever seems upset with anything, and even if he does, he keeps it to himself. He has never seen his glass half empty; it's always half full to him, and he feels lucky for it.
BACKGROUND:
History:
- Oliver Clarke Fontaine is born in the spring to two loving, but often very busy parents. The Fontaines are very involved in the businesses around Remoor, heading their own company themselves – which left little time for them to bond with their son. Oliver was an only child, but he was perfectly fine with that. He was able to entertain himself, and his company was the tiny Plusle he named Roux that had been given to him by his parents for a birthday.
- His younger years are quiet, but not lonely. He has Roux to play with, even if she often played pranks on him and hid from him constantly. Oliver was very fond of her though, and the two became very close. While he didn’t see his parents often, he made sure to study as much as he could, in order to make them proud. He had tutors for his schooling, which distanced him from other children his age, and caused his overly shy personality.
- His love of books becomes apparent even before he learned how to read. Oliver would often sit in his father’s lap when he was conducting business at home and proudly point out words that he knew, giggling. His parents would praise him, and he felt happy for the first time since he could remember. He often missed his parents, but he understood even then that they were busy
- Oliver was soon pushed into the public school system when his family moved closer into the city, causing the young boy to panic even before his first day of school. He was a nervous and skittish child, one who would rather bury his nose in a book than interact with other children his age. Keeping his head down, he managed to keep to himself as his shy nature got the better of him during his early schooling.
- As he continued through school, Oliver’s marks were high and his teachers were impressed with his performance. He didn’t have too many friends; he was far too shy to approach anyone, though he would often gravitate towards a boy around his age that was friendly to him. Oliver slowly improved in being able to talk to people – in a stutter, yes, but he could talk now without turning around and running away. He could freely admit that he had a best friend, someone he tried to spend as much time as he could with.
- It was during this time, in between his studies and moving upward in the schooling system that he found a Deerling at the edge of their property. Oliver took the little creature in and became attached to it instantly, naming him Ace. The Deerling quickly fit into his family, and soon they were chasing each other around the house, laughing and playing constantly. Oliver was happy then. At least up until his father announced that they were moving again, and he was forced to travel to yet another new place.
- This time Oliver’s shyness was even worse as he tried to fit in at school. There were too many people, always moving around and past him. He was more frightened than he had been in a very long time, but he was determined to at least finish school – like his parents wanted him too. The blond didn’t know what he was going to do after he was finished with school, though he had half a thought to just find a job at the local library in Nada. The library had become sort of a second home to him, finding comfort in the books. He was a scholar in the making.
- In the year before he was set to graduate, Oliver was out wandering the streets with Roux at his side when he found a Chimecho attached to one of the tallest buildings, swaying in the wind to create a beautiful bell sound. He approached her to say hello, listening to her song, and every day after that he would come back – to either listen, or study, or hold a conversation. He doesn’t know how exactly it had happened, but at some point the Chimecho floated in front of his face and introduced herself as Jing, requesting to come with him. And Oliver gladly accepted.
- With three Pokémon by his side – albeit not very strong ones, but that didn’t matter to him – Oliver finished his schooling and started looking for jobs that would keep him near books. He tried teaching, but that didn’t work. He tried being a secretary, but he was far too disorganized and flustered half the time. And then he applied for the job of a librarian at the public library, which proved to be successful. Oliver was happy again, enjoying his new job.
- He settled into his little home in Nada, finding it easy to blend in here. It was a new city, a new life, but Oliver was satisfied with his life – even if he didn’t really have friends. As long as he was around books, he was comfortable.
Pokemon:
Name: Jing.
Species: Chimecho.
Level: 25.
Gender: Female.
Ability: Levitate.
Origins: Jing was a stray before she had met Oliver, and after warming to the boy's personality, she asked to join him.
Personality: Having a bit of a Type A personality, Jing gets a little more than exasperated when it comes to Roux’s constant chattering and playing and her basic attitude. She likes having things in order, and she wants it to stay that way, not taking it too kindly to the person who messed it up. While she’s reluctant to give up control most of the time, she will listen to Oliver – though grudgingly. She’s more willing to compromise with him than anyone else.
Attacks:
- Astonish.
- Confusion.
- Uproar.
- Take Down.
- Yawn.
- Psyshock [TM].
- Dream Eater [TM].
- Calm Mind [TM].
Name: Roux.
Species: Plusle.
Level: 30.
Gender: Female.
Ability: Plus.
Origins: Oliver's parents gave him Roux as a birthday gift when he was young.
Personality: Being the high-energy member of the little team, Roux is often the one who wants to play games or fight someone or look for new adventures (which often means that she demands Oliver to go find her in the vast expanse of the library). She is a bit of a prankster, and shows her affection towards someone by constantly trying to scare them (by jumping out of nowhere) and playing jokes. She is easily amused with the results that she gets from this. Her curiosity is never-ending, and she more often than not sticks her nose where it doesn’t belong.
Attacks:
- Thunder Wave.
- Quick Attack.
- Helping Hand.
- Copycat.
- Charge Beam [TM].
- Thunderbolt [TM].
- Echoed Voice [TM].
Name: Ace.
Species: Sawsbuck.
Level: 36.
Gender: Male.
Ability: Chlorophyll, Sap Sipper, and Serene Grace.
Origins: Oliver found Ace as a deerling at the edge of his parent's property when he was young, and took him in to raise him.
Personality: Ace is the methodic thinker of the three, and he uses this to his advantage when it comes to dealing with the differing personalities of Roux and Jing – or to fight one of the rare battles that Oliver puts himself in the middle of. While he isn’t one of the strongest Pokémon out there, he sees himself as the protector of their group and will put himself forward first, so that the others won’t have to battle unnecessarily. He is more of an older brother than a leader.
Attacks:
- Tackle.
- Double Kick.
- Leech Seed.
- Faint Attack.
- Take Down.
- Aromatherapy.
- Energy Ball.
- Solar Beam [TM].
Name: Taylor
Species: Lopunny
Level: 45
Gender: Female
Ability: Cute Charm, Klutz, or Limber
Current Experience: 0/?
Origins: As a Christmas gift from the event!
Personality: She is the motherly type for sure. Though, she is not so much the kind of mother that worries excessively over every little thing nor the kind of mother that is too strict and disciplinary. She is the type that is sweet and loving, taking care of those around her without a single complaint. She is sweet towards Oliver and the other Pokemon, as well as those around her in general. She is good to talk to, a wonderful listener, a sympathetic ear, and filled with a wisdom beyond her years. She was formerly owned by an elderly woman who'd had her since the cancer took over in her earlier years. Taylor learned many kinds of patience and love simply by going through that time in her life.
Attacks:
- Mirror Coat
- Magic Coat
- Splash
- Pound
- Quick Attack
- Jump Kick
- Dizzy Punch
- Bounce
ROLE-PLAYING SAMPLE:The garden was his favorite place in the entire school.
Oliver had decided this long ago when he had discovered the garden upon first coming here to Haven. It was the one part of this place that he almost completely at home. As he walked quietly through the worn grass paths, he knew why. It was peaceful here, being among the colorful blooms of flora, and there was something about the tranquil quiet of the area that was soothing to the normally skittish rabbit. This wasn’t the hustle and bustle of the school: no, it was something far different. He could be himself here.
He could hear his shoes hitting lightly against the ground, and he raised a hand to gently trail the tips of his fingers over the soft petals of the blooms closest to him. Oliver took care to not be too rough, for as often as he came to this garden, he took care of the flowers with all the tenderness in his heart. He had always enjoyed gardening; at his home settlement, he hadn’t been able to do so because of his constant training, and how often he was away on his duties. At least here he could take up his favorite hobby once more. It was one of those silver linings that he had found with living behind the impassable barrier.
No one could say that he was nothing but optimistic, even with the days and months rolling by – one by one – and there was still no way to get out.
Oliver sighed gently, stopping in place and letting his gaze sweep over the entirety of the garden. He was honestly surprised that it was empty today; there were usually one or two other students that came here besides him, and they would sit among the flowers to study. Perhaps it was because there was a hint of a chill in the air. The lanky rabbit shivered slightly as the breeze played over his skin and ruffled his hair, and he quickly set off at a brisk pace to walk deeper into the maze-like garden – before he crouched down, and shifted into his rabbit form on a whim.
The clothes slid off of his small body and he wriggled out of them, hopping into the bed of flora to hunker down against the stems. Oliver had always felt more at ease in his other form, and now he trembled slightly as the breeze penetrated his thick fur. He covered his nose with his tiny paws, and a sneeze erupted from the small creature, almost knocking him over with the force of it. It’s too cold, was his thought as he crawled through the roots in search of somewhere warm to sleep. Maybe he could take a short nap somewhere before returning to the dorms? He wouldn’t be missed too much, would he?
As he crawled through the bed of tulips, he caught glance of a tail. He froze for a moment, his instincts telling him immediately that that was the tail of a predator and that he should run – and yet, he found himself moving towards it, completely against his better judgment. Oliver peeked curiously through the stems to see Caleb there, and his eyes widened. What was his roommate doing out here? Did he know that he was there? But that apparently wasn’t so when the dragon flinched away from him, and the little rabbit’s heart seemed to break. Was the other male scared of him? Or scared of his reaction?
Oliver’s ears flattened against his head as he heard Caleb’s words, watching as he crawled away and brought his legs to his chest, hiding his face. The small rabbit tilted his head, and though he could feel his heart beating furiously against his thin chest, he…wasn’t afraid. Oliver didn’t understand why or how, but somehow, he didn’t feel quite so scared any more. Was it because his roommate didn’t recognize him? He didn’t know.
As Caleb hid his face against his knees, the messenger rabbit moved forward quietly, closer and closer, until he was sitting right next to the dragon’s feet. He released a soft chirp, nuzzling his nose against Caleb’s leg in hopes that it would soothe him. He wanted to see him happy. Maybe if he tried hard enough, he could bring a smile to the other’s face.
