Other Appearance Information: Ruby is quite an attractive woman at first glance. Tall, tanned, well proportioned, and not missing any body parts, she's quite used to getting looks from the men, and women. Her snow white hair, a peculiar birth anomaly, when contrasted with her darker skin has always made her seem rare and exotic amongst the more average toned peoples of Remoor. Unfortunately for her dating prospects it was her stature and build that tend to frighten people off; not many boys wanted to be with a girl who was both taller than them and more muscled to boot. Another unfortunate trait is the many scars that cover her body, many on her hands and torso but the majority on her limbs and face. Of these these is a burn scar on her left cheek, and the remnants of the wound on her right calf.
Clothing wise she tends to prefer mild or darker colors to complement her natural tones; creams, reds, and browns being her favorites. These usually are worn in the form of long boots that support her leg muscles, pants, finger cloves, tight muscle shirts and a long duster, worn even in the summer.

Personality:
- Stubborn; Probably her most obvious and defining trait is her stubbornness and determination. Once Ruby is set on an idea or task she absolutely refuses to give up on it until she's entirely satisfied. On the one hand this is what enabled her go become so capable an athlete and trainer; on the other its what kept her away when her brother needed her most and is what has prevented her from even acknowledging the existence of her entire family for years.
- Caring; In spite of her tough attitude, Ruby is at heart a deeply caring and sensitive individual. It is this core virtue which has prevented her from shunning her brothers even in light of their life choices, and is also what has blinded her entirely to many of the things they have done and continue to do.
- Bitter; Though she rarely shows this side of herself to anyone other than Liam, Ruby is extremely bitter and resentful of the many things she has lost; her brothers, her family, her future as a gym leader. Most of all she is bitter, and often depressed, over the lack of her physical capabilities; she is currently unable to do many things that even an average person would do, and in comparison to his abilities before she is now essentially crippled.
- Fighter; Ruby has always been the type to enjoy a scrape, often taking the part of the knight in shining armor at school by beating up all of the bullies. Though not physically able anymore she still enjoys it, and tries to vent her urges by playing games or making bets with Liam.
- Dynamic; One of her most defining traits is that she's never been able to simply sit still and think something out, she's always had to be right in the middle of everything mixing it up. This is what propelled her through her sports and training, and set her on the course to becoming a gym leader. Even now, with her injuries inhibiting her so heavily, she refuses to be held down. This causes Liam no end of exasperation of course, and often leads to more ill than good in the long run.
BACKGROUND:
History:
Ruby was born as the first, and only, daughter of a preeminent family that, while retaining a great deal of prestige within Nada and Remoor as a whole, was quite a ways from the wealthy nobles that still flaunted about the region. She was a bit of a surprise at first, especially for her father who had always been rather adamant about not wanting any children. The surprise for him came when he found that it was impossible for him not to love the little girl who, even having just born, displayed the same fire and stubbornness that would define her for the rest of her life.
For the first few years of her life Ruby was alone as a child of the Grett’s, her parents love entirely focused on her and her alone; however their attentions were frequently other places, leaving her alone and to her own devices. Though this obviously made the little girl lonesome, she attempted to make up for this by exploring and adventuring even before she was able to walk. More than once the toddler was scolded when her parents came back and she was missing, only to discover that she was pretending to be a watermelon in the garden or had climbed atop one of the lounging cows and fallen asleep.
Then came something that started the many changes in her life; the birth of her first little brother. While Ruby was very glad for someone that could keep her company and play with her she wasn’t too certain as to how she felt about sharing her parents’ affection, especially since he seemed to get the better part of it. As if that was bad enough he seemed to mostly sleep, and whenever he was she wasn’t allowed to take him out of his crib for adventures or she’d get in trouble. This is why she was so excited when she learned that her parents were going to be getting her another baby to play with, and she hoped that it would be a girl like her because so far boys just seemed to be really boring. Her hopes were such that, when Japhet was born a boy, she crossed her arms and stamped her foot and steadfastly refused to accept the fact, demanding they make him a girl and proceeding to refer to him as ‘Anna’ for years to come.
The years quickly went by and the three grew older. Surprisingly enough they always got along very well, even in spite of Ruby’s initial disdain for the male gender and her insistence on referring to her younger brother as his middle name. As was wont to happen the conflicts in their lives came not from the children, but from those adults were supposed to be so much more mature. Their varying family members seemed to be constantly at odds over things the children couldn’t even begin to understand, only know that the grownups were acting like a bunch of big babies. Thus most of their childhood was spent interacting with one another, leaving the adults to fight amongst themselves.
Being the eldest of the siblings, Ruby was naturally the first of them to receive her first pokémon. When given her choices she almost immediately decided upon a young Tyrogue, unaware that all of its species was male and believing that it would be much more willing to assist her in her grand exploits. To her astonishment however, aside from his gender of course, Liam proved to be so simultaneously alike and different from her that the fiery young girl had no idea what to think of him. He was much more level headed than she, always spoiling her expansive and stellar reaching fantasies with cool logic and common sense. Worst of all though was the fact that he was every bit as stubborn as her, an d she quite often found it impossible to bypass his reasoning and dashing of her ideas. As fate would have it however they shared another aspect in that they were both extremely competent battlers, even at their young age, and the two quickly sealed their friendship through a series of sparring matches and trouncing of other kids around Nada.
As they got older and each received their own pokémon in turn, then settling into their respective lifestyles, the Grett children slowly began to drift apart. They were still very close, Aide and Ruby complementing each other’s faults and both of the elder siblings looking out for their little brother, but they were no longer as inseparable as they had been previously. Over this time period many things remained unchanged, Aiden still smart and calm, Ruby outgoing and adventurous, and Japhet trailing along behind them in a much more balanced fashion. It was in middle and high school that Ruby’s proclivities became greatly apparent, her grades falling into the C and D ranges as she focused more and more on extra curriculars and battling. She joined every sports team available to her and somehow managed to not only succeed in all of them at once but to excel, quickly becoming the star player on every team and earning the admiration and distaste of her peers almost universally.
Of course, even as much as things remain the same they also change. Not only did the children begin to drift apart as differences surfaced, but as they became older and more able to understand things they gradually began to join in the schism dividing their family. As she became increasingly aware of Pravus and its affiliations she became more and more disgusted with them, and with the vocal agreement of her mother and somewhat tentative support of her father she soon transferred out of the academy she had shared with her brothers and into one not owned by Pravus. This school also had the benefit of being much more training oriented and placing less emphasis on academics; it being one intended to prep prospective gym leaders.
It was shortly before her graduation that things took a turn for the worse. When Aiden revealed that he fully intended to join with Pravus, having already signed his papers in fact, their father couldn’t be prouder, while their mother was simply disappointed. Ruby on the other hand, was furious with him. She had always believed that Aiden of all people, being her brother and the smartest person she knew, would have the sense to see through all of Pravus’ lies and propaganda. What happened next is hard to tell, as Ruby refuses to speak of it and Liam knows better, but what arose was a fierce disagreement between the two. Their parents intervened, but... Nevertheless Ruby refused to speak to her brother or even live in the same house as him, and so moved in with her mother’s side of the family until she finished her schooling.
Several months later Ruby graduated, receiving a Scraggy from her father’s side of the family and a Meditite from her mother’s side. Though each assumed that she would be going along with their plans for her, yet another point of contention, she surprised all of them when she declared that she was leaving not only Nada but Remoor in order to continue her training and plans to eventually become a gym leader. Though they all hated to see her go, and she was at odds as to whether she truly wished to leave them, she wished her parents and Japhet the best and promised to call or write when she could. To Aiden she said nothing, nor did he say anything to her.
She first traveled to Unova, there challenging the gym circuit and training in combat with the religious Knight Orders found there. From there she traveled to Hoenn, again combatting the gym circuit as well as using the various hostile terrain as places to further their training. It was here that she first encountered villainy outside of Remoor, when she came upon a group of Team Aqua members in Slateport. A group of three had ganged up on a lone squidlike pokémon that Ruby had never seen before.A group of three had ganged up on a lone squidlike pokémon that Ruby had never seen before. Without hesitating she pushed past the people just standing and watching and sent Liam and Rourke into the fray. It was plain to see that the thugs were angry and dismissive of her ability to do anything, and so to teach them some respect for women, to make sure they didn’t forget her, she joined her partners in an ass kicking jamboree. It was barely even the blink of an eye before they had beaten the thugs into submission and left them lying in a heap for the authorities to collect. With them out of the way, the trio went over to investigate the new pokémon, only for Ruby to get a face full of ink when she tried to poke it. Liam and Rourke naturally found this very amusing and so, against her better judgment, she bonked the little fellow upside his head with one of the pokéballs she had gotten from a promotional giveaway in Rustboro.
It was shortly after this that Ruby received a call from home, strangely enough from her father. Though she was reluctant to have any content with his side of her family it was still her father and she loved him. This would prove to be unfortunate however, as it turned out that her father was making the call to infirm her that her littlest brother Japhet had followed in Aiden's footsteps and joined Pravus. As if this wasn't stunning enough, he revealed that it was at her mother's encouraging that he had done so. He then started to tell her about the current state of Remoor but she didn't listen. Ruby was so angry that she just slammed the phone down and left.
After that she didn't speak to them again, refused to even read their emails, and threw herself headfirst even more into her training and battling, so much so that she and her pokémon actually began to wear down, eventually becoming so worn and exhausted that they actually lost more than they won. It was Liam that finally confronted her, asking her if she'd lost her mind and telling her she was a fool for letting her emotions control her so. When this only succeeded to anger her he didn't back down, instead he persisted and the two wound up in a fight.
Surpriselingly this proved to be quite an even match, Ruby's training and skill allowing her to match up to the incredibly strong fighting pokémon. Eventually though, it was Liam's cool head that prevailed, her oldest companion using her anger against her to gain the upperhand and knock some sense into her. It was only after this thorough beat down that she was able to see clearly, and she realized just how much of a bitch she'd been to her friends and to her family. It was also at this point that Liam chose to tell her he'd been reading the emails and letters her family had sent her. Though this started to tick her off again he quickly cut her short, and told her that the last email her parents had sent was to inform her that Japhet had been wounded in a battle, and might nit make it even long enough for her to get back home. Ruby was stunned by this knowledge, and despite her anger at her brother and family for their choices she couldn't deny now that she did love and care for them, and she knew that shed never be able to live with herself if the last her brother heard of her was anger.
Cutting their Sinnoh circuit short, Ruby and her pokémon immediately set off for Remoor and home. When they arrived she immediately set off for her parents' house, and when she couldn't find then she went to the Nada Pravus base. Obviously this required her to swallow a great deal of pride and it was not without its reservations, but she had to see her baby brother, just in case he didn’t make it, and so she judged this to be worthy of any trial she might have to endure. Luckily it didn’t require her to have to deal with too many of them, they were able to direct her to the correct hospital and she was then able to leave and be on her way. Soon enough she found the correct place and entered, only to have to argue with the receptionist who refused to allow her up to Japhet’s room. It was only the timely intervention of her father, come to fetch some coffee, that saved the from getting her pretty face rearranged and kept Ruby from being barred from the premise.
After a somewhat awkward yet still loving reunion, he showed her upstairs where she had another, somewhat more tense and accusatory, reunion upon meeting her mother. Rather than give her the piece of her mind she so desperately wished to she instead walked past her and into the room where her little Anna lay, battered and burned almost beyond recognition. Thankfully he was unconscious, her father said he’d been screaming and crying nonstop the few times he’d awoken. Despite her best efforts she found herself tearing up, horrified at what had happened to such a sweet young boy who’d only ever wanted to prove how wonderful he was, never knowing she’d always seen it. She held his hand tightly and watched him for as long as she could bear it and then turned and left, not saying a word to either of her parents who just watched her go.
After she left the hospital, Ruby immediately headed for the nearest exit to the city. Without hesitation she and her Pokemon threw themselves into the wa effort; but on the side of Remoor rather than any of the major powers fighting for dominance in the broken region. They helped clear the passes so Furnace Town could be evacuated after the clones overran Pravus' Pyrothian base, held open the tunnels that allowed the people to flee Skyarrow city, and guarded many convoys of refugees as they fled towards the safety of Nada and its protective dome. Their main objective however, which they failed at time and again, was protecting the gyms and their devotees across the region. Somehow, they always seemed to arrive too late; a collapsed beam, broken axle, or other battle always delaying them until it was too late. On the very few occasions they did make it before the battle was over entirely, it was always too late for them to have any real effect. In these situations they always played rearguard, holding back the attacking forces until the others could make good their escape.
Eventually there was only one gym left in all of Remoor, the Ghost type gym within Nada itself. Though she was loathe to return to the city that was her home Ruby knew that she had no choice but to do so. Any day, any moment even, the clones could break through the walls, the Rangers could sabotage the city, or Pravus could decide that a grouping of such strong trainers on their doorstep wasn't something they cared to leave unattended. So it was that Ruby, Liam, Rourke, Sascha, and Lee all returned to Nada, though they made a point of staying at the gym rather than their home.
As it would turn out, it was the latter of her fears that would prove correct. After years of destruction and horrific losses of life on all sides, the war seemed to be nearly at an end. The clones were all dead, the Rangers broken both from without and within, and Pravus was left as the undisputed rulers of Remoor. In this time the so called 'Bounty List' system had come into play, and Pravus had embraced it with open arms, much to the chagrin of the former gym leaders. Their petitions for a return to the old ways fell on deaf ears, and many within their number began to talk openly of overthrowing their dictators; a little too openly, as it turned out. Soon enough word of such talk reached Pravus' spies, and they decided that it made for the perfect excuse to do away with the nuisance of Gym Leaders once and for all.
When their attack came it was as swift as it was brutal. Rather than sending in the grunts Pravus sent their elite, pokémorphs specially designed and conditioned to take down the toughest of Pravus' enemies. It was only by the good fortune of a restless student that any of them received any warning at all, though the warning cost the poor dear her life. Without a second thought Ruby was out of her bed and into the battle, not even bothering to dress before she and her pokémon hurtled into the assailants. Unfortunately for her they had expected such a thing and had prepared for it. No sooner had Ruby finished off one of the assailants and dashed after his partner than the bombs went off, the explosive force sent the shrapnel and debris rocketing through her body, lodging in some places and others merely passing through. One of the former came in the form of a small water pipe that burst from the wall and lodged itself securely in her right calf muscle, sending the woman to the ground with a scream of pain. Ruby struggled to regain her feet, to keep up the attack, but to her immense surprise she was unceremoniously hauled to her feet and tossed over a burly brown shoulder. Unable to fight back, all she could do was scream in impotent rage as Liam hauled her from the building, Rourke and Sascha at his side as they fled into the night, leaving the others to die.
Afterwards they delivered her to a local family doctor, not wanting to chance the Pravus affiliated Nada General. The doctor was able to patch her up and remove the pipe from her leg, but as he was getting on in years and had only ever practiced family medicine he was unable to repair the extensive muscle damage, meaning that Ruby would be lucky to walk again, and fighting was entirely out of the question. Without doubt, her dream of becoming a gym leader was dead, crushed by the very people her family supported so heartily. Ruby didn't say a word to him, there was nothing to say.
Liam paid the man for her treatment and they left, returning home for the first time in years. Ruby didn't want to face her parents like this but she knew she had no choice, afterall they weren't able to sustain themselves in the condition she was in. To her surprise they took her in without question, the both of them nursing her back to health along with her pokémon. Eventually, once she was strong enough to move on her own again, her mother gave her part of the family lands and the small house that sat upon it. Since then she's lived there, managing to take care of the animals and plants with the help of her dear friends. The shadow of her failures still looms over her, and it has made her quite bitter towards those whom are at fault, though admittedly a great deal of her anger is placed upon Aiden, simply because he was the first to betray her; in her mind at least. She frequently visits with her family, and especially Japhet whom she is constantly trying to convince to come and live with her. Maybe if she could at least take care of one person, she wouldn't feel like her entire life had been for nothing...
