Layna didn't like vacations. Especially here, in this fakey paradise with its dead ocean and blindingly bright sand.
Vacation my fat ass, she muttered sullenly, tugging at the feelers on her neck. Just barely got out of rehab... I don't need a damn vacation, I should be working.
Layna stepped carefully out onto the boardwalk, bare feet making little sound against the wooden planks. She moved quickly and quietly even on 'vacation;' skills neglected are skills lost, as her mothers say.
She touched a hand to the pokeball on her waist for reassurance. She'd left Archie at home, but Vex, who didn't mind her pokeball, stayed with Layna at all times. Although Layna could hold her own in both her forms, Vex provided vicious support in a pinch. She could hit hard and fast, and her abilities as a dark type were much appreciated. Layna shivered slightly, remembering why she'd gotten Vex in the first place.
Shit. she grumbled, picking the pokeball from its holder and releasing Vex. The umbreon shook her fur and looked questioningly at Layna, who just shrugged.
A girl gets bored all alone. she said. Vex nodded.
I can understand that. Vex said, her accent deep and gravely. Layna winced.
Sorry about the 'ball, I know it's not really... preferred.
Archie's the only one of us that actually cares, Lay. The 'ball is comfortable. That's all I really care about, so stop worrying. Vex pressed against Layna's legs as she spoke, attempting to soothe her trainer. Layna smiled and bent to scratch behind Vex's ears.
All the same, I'll try and keep you out more often. She squatted down, stroking Vex's soft fur almost contently.
Vacation... so far, it could be worse.

A lone creature sat at the edge of the boardwalk. The spiked, yellow furred kept a low profile as if trying to blend in with the sand around him as his gaze was fixed at the ocean, ears flicking with each wave. Water that was cold and salty on top. Not so savory on paper, but many seemed to enjoy this place. The Jolteon had mixed feelings about it himself. He found staring at it to be relaxing, but the though of getting in made his body shiver. It was too risky, but then again so was being here. Luckily most that ended up glancing at his general direction assumed he was owned by someone nearby and left him at peace. Peace. What a silly, word. It was a concept that couldn't really exist in practice yet excellent in theory. Like anything that had a limited time span. Erebus's peace however tended to have a very short span.
The Jolteon would narrow his eyes, lifting his upper lip slightly to growl softly. A pokemorph nearby, a Sylveon, appeared to 'own' an Umbreon as a pet. The creature grumbled at the though of a human spliced with one of his own kin owning a Pokemon. Much less a Pokemon that happened to be an Eeveelution as well. It was almost rage inducing, but Erebus knew better than to start fights with Pravus. At least in areas where he could be easily taken care off.
The Pokemon's nose twitched, almost as if to confirm that there was indeed a Sylveonmorph and an Umbreon near by. This time good old fashion passive aggressive discussion would have to do. If things got out of hand Erebus could always simply say his owner was waiting for him and get out it fairly easily. The prickly creature padded closer, rough pads firm against the wood until he was inches from the duo, his 'good' ear perked while his torn one falling back in an attempt to draw attention from it. In all fairness he didn't really pass a human owned Pokemon with his rather sickly looking appearance, but it had worked in the past. Or perhaps everyone was too scared to question it in fear of invoking the rage of a higher up.
"Busy day today, eh?" Erebus spat out in a dry, almost blunt tone in an attempt to start small talk. "Quite the duo you are I must say. Two Eeveelutions. So close, yet so far." There was a short pause followed by a brief chuckle at his poetic attempt.

Vex's ears twitched suddenly, alerting both 'morph and pokemon to movement nearby. Layna quickly collected herself and stood straight, preparing herself for a round of inane chatter. Vex stretched and waltzed forwards to greet the stranger, but tensed when she finally picked up their scent.
Layna. Pokemon. she growled, just as the pokemon in question came into view. Layna tensed, slipping from her formal stance into something slightly more dangerous. She wished desperately she'd worn something that covered a little more skin.
The Jolteon kept coming closer, but it was walking smoothly and calmly. Not infected; that was a relief. All the same, Layna's stance remained relaxed and ready. They were on a Pravus-owned area, and although most pokemon weren't exactly suicidal enough to pick a fight with them, the recent incident with pokemon rights activists may have pushed some a little past their breaking point.
The Jolteon stopped a few inches away, close enough for Layna and Vex to see its various wounds and especially its underfed appearance. Vex's eyes narrowed as the wind blew its scent towards her.
Good day, Layna said, turning on her natural charm in response to the Jolteon's dry quips. Odd coincidence that the three of us would all be in the same place together, isn't it?
Vex settled back onto her hind legs and raised a paw to rub against her face, claws sliding out in a completely unsubtle threat.
Hello. she growled curtly, ignoring Layna's small tut of disapproval.

Erebus would narrow his eyes at the Umbreon, a sly grin stretching across his muzzle for a moment to show he wasn't intimidated by the display or aggression against him, but kept it subtle enough as to not break his ruse. He wasn't looking for a fight. Not now at least. The canine eyed the duo from head to toe, nose twitching as he sucked in their scents to further solidify his brief inspection.
"Strange indeed." He mutted softly, taking a seat against the two, his claws tapping neatly against the wood. "I can practically feel the tension here. Not a fan of Jolteons? Oh! Is it the ear?" He'd mumble, his torn ear twitching a bit as the Jolteon assumed an amused expression. "Ah, well. I can't help that." Sob stories were always effective. "I'm just looking to enjoy the ocean, but I just couldn't help but notice you two." At this point Erebus was getting rather sassy, not really worried despite the sighs. He would never back off from a fight. His scars were proof enough.
"Alas, I shared my reason for being here, now it's your turn. Assuming you want to socialize, that is." A sublte insult as his eyes fell on the Umbreon, muzzle twisting as his head titled slightly before he'd redirect his attention elsewhere. "Say, what is it like to be a Pokemorph? Best of two worlds? Freak of nature?" He'd ask, leaning a bit closer. "Oh, no offense of couse, meerly curious. I haven't met many of your kin." The electric canine was usually good with his words, often twisting facts to get his way.

Layna sighed heavily, swatting Vex's long ear with a feeler. "I'm afraid she likes to fight a bit too much for her own good." she said, gracefully lowering herself to the ground. "You'll have to forgive us both, I'm afraid. We're not in the habit of being trusting."
Vex snorted at that, tail curling around her feet as she lay down next to Layna. "And why should we be? Not like anyone's given us a reason to be so naive." It was true, it wasn't like being a spy for Pravus fostered a lot of trust or faith in one's fellows. Still, one half-starved Jolteon of dubious origins didn't appear to pose much of a threat.
Layna shrugged in response to the Jolteon's questions, although the 'freak of nature' remark made her feelers twitch in annoyance. Vex growled, but kept quiet. Layna could handle herself.
"I'm on vacation. Seemed as good a place as any to waste time. And I rather like the abilities my form gives me, although the smart-ass remarks get a little tiresome after a while. Everyone seems to think they're so clever and provocative with their little quips." She rolled her eyes and flipped some stray hair out of her eyes, and Vex took her opportunity.
"So what's it like to be a mangy feral? Freeing? You just look dirty and starving to me. No offense, of course. I'm merely curious, we haven't met many mangy animals." She smirked as best an Umbreon could smirk as Layna choked on air next to her.

The canine shot an unamused look at the pair before chuckling casually. He was used at the rough language and frankly it didn't both him. He'd take being a dirty feral over being a slave any day. He would smirk, a single ear perking while his damaged one laid low, almost as if he was trying to improve his image. His ear somehow always bothered him. He didn't want people to see it.
"Oh, how original you are. Were you in comedy?yousurelooklikeajoketome." Erebus would exclaim, grinning still. The last part would be fast and muffled. It was doubtful any of the two would have been able to catch that, but even if they did he couldn't care less. "It's actually pretty good. I'm free to do as I please without having to report back to anyone or follow any sort of rule." He stretched to add emphasis to his point. "No obligations is pretty good. At the same time it helped get stronger and once I got to control a small hunting area life was secured." The Jolteon would smirk in a rather cocky manner. He wasn't ashamed, but at the time the duo had managed to irk him. The idea of a Pravus dog and what was essentially a slave looking down at him was rather annoying. The electric type was starting to rethink his no attacking policy.
"And what about you? Enjoying life as a servant?" Erebus would suddenly snap at the Umbreon, bringing a paw close to his maw before it would part, allowing his long, rough tongue to slide out as he began to groom himself casually, almost as he wasn't agressive. "Did you buy your Umbreon at a store or...?" His tone would be rather mocking, an eyebrow raising to show his curiosity as his head tilted slightly.
