Hooves could be heard pounding down the dirt track as six Ponyta made their way down the track. Flaming manes and tails made for a fantastic sight as the human jockey pushed their mounts on towards the finish line.
One particular equine in question, slightly taller than his kind, led the pack of horses from the inside, his jockey clung onto the reins with nervous hands. Garfield sensed the young man's nervousness and soon the beast began to feel nervous himself. In his mind he pictured his own father and his own jockey meeting their deaths right on the track, never to be seen in the world of the living again. It was then that the Ponyta pulled back and bumped into another Ponyta before ejected his jockey with a properly timed buck. The man hit the dirt as the other racers moved on towards the finish line.
Garfield sighed as he saw the human lying in the dirt. "Sorry. I can't do it." The fire horse snorted as he walked away from the human, his reins hanging loosely around his neck. It was without fail whenever the Ponyta would get on the track. He'd lead the pack for a good amount of furlongs before tensing up and tossing every single jockey that has the pleasure of being on his back. The pony just couldn't do it, he wouldn't do it. He didn't want to end up in a tangled bloody mess like his father.
He was afraid.
The workers of the track hurried over to check over the tossed jockey, Garfield simply sighed and walked off the track. He'd never be great like his father, he was too much of a coward. As the pony headed towards the stable he remembered that he was actually close to evolving yet the only thing holding him back was that he was afraid What if he evolving only brought him one step closer to the same fate as his father? Garfield fed off of doubt and fear. Normally, he was someone who never give up, no matter how high the obstacle. Yet..some things change.
He looked up as a jockey and his own fully evolved Rapidash mount walked by. The fiery unicorns were so glorious, but... Garfield snapped out of his thoughts as someone walked up and offered to remove his saddle and bridle. "Thanks." He murmured, having completely forgotten about the racing tack that had adorned his frame. After he was unsaddled the pony walked back towards a grassy field near the stable, looking out at the tall buildings that loomed in the distance where other humans and pokemon carried out their daily lives.
It was a world where he did not belong.
Despite his fears, his heart belonged to the track.
Ears flicked as he heard someone approaching from nearby. "Hello?" He called out, his brown eyes scanning the area.
