Winter was one of the most uninviting years of the season. One rarely saw the season advertised on pamphlets, or inviting someone to participate in a party or something of the like. The days were short and the nights were longer which meant that there was less sunlight, which meant a hell of a lot of trouble for a grass legendary like Gaillardia.
Lavender had snagged a couple of jackets from Xavier's closet, keeping them for himself for he did not like the sheer drop in temperature within the city. The man walked onto the plaza, looking as though he was wearing armor made from cloth. "It's still freezing!" The cat hissed softly under his breath as he murmured excuse me a couple of times as he pushed through a group of people that were all bundled up in winter wear.
The green haired man still stood out among the crowd as he stood on the edge of the plaza and looked down at the frozen substance at his feet. It had been a good long while since he had seen snow, and frankly it was not something he had missed. "I hate snow, it's cold outside and the sun doesn't even feel warm." He complained but before he could add in something else, a frozen ball of snow hit him in the face as a kid with a missing tooth grinned, snot running from his nose and down his nose, ran off to go bother someone else.
Pulling the jackets closer around himself, the cat stepped back and shook his face before rubbing the snow from his eyes and face, oblivious to the fact that a friend of his was gradually approaching.

Winter was also an unwanted entity in Xavier's world, the cold air and ice - especially ice - putting a damper on the dragon's already foul mood. His job was also affected by the plunging temperatures and changing environment, slick surfaces and frosted wings being his bane during combat. He managed fine enough and accumulated enough money to last the winter without customers if need be, but the calls kept coming, and he kept saying yes.
This was a welcome break, however.
He smirked when he saw the mess of green hair he was meeting up with, bee lining right for the man, only to blink when he noticed the other's attire. So thats where that particular jacket went off to... what a cad. He couldn't be mad, though; if the past few months proved anything, Xavier was growing soft. Very soft. At least for this feline.
"Ya know, you can ask to borrow those instead of stealing them." Xavier chided as soon as he got into hearing range, but his smile showed that he wasn't angry. Gail heard this argument before, after all. "Ya sneaker." He added with a small purr and hug, something that had become more common between the two.

After the last spec of frozen water was wiped from his face, the man heard a familiar come up from nearby. A grin full of sharp teeth but otherwise full of both mischief and joy looked back towards his good friend. He had known the dragon long enough to know that the beast, although seemingly angry, wasn't at all angry, not with that smile.
Either way, Lavender had an explanation. He always did. "I didn't want to wait. I wanted to come out here, but it's colder than I thought." He explained as he turned to face the white haired man. The feline returned a soft purr, something he often did and Latios had only just picked up, as he hugged the man in return. The hug lasted a bit longer than it should have before the man finally pulled away and looked away for a split moment, was that a blush rising into his cheeks?
There weren't any flowers or any type of foliage for the cat to gawk at during this event. The only thing he could see was snow, and ice. Just like the grass-type feline, the dragon was not a fan of ice and snow either. "What are you doing out here Xav?" He asked the man after a moment. "Young children are carelessly throwing around snowballs. It's not nice to throw things at people" Lavender finally asked as he looked back towards the man. He wasn't going to say aloud that the legendary looked rather charming in a winter setting, he'd just keep that thought to himself. Providing the part psychic type stayed out of his head.

"Taking a walk." Xavier lied, folding his arms back across his chest. In truth he had seen Gail amble by from his perch up in his apartment, and in truth again he had been hoping to see him pass by. av had begun to familiarize with Lavender's exploration habits; he supposed he rubbed off on the feline slightly. Which was good; he needed more human interaction if he was going to learn their ways.
"Haa?" He looked to the side and saw the snowball fight taking place. He observed it with a distasteful leer when a sudden mischievous gleam sparked in his eye and he cleared his throat, a glow subtle beneath the scarf that wound around his neck. After a moment, one of the kid's snowballs shifted direction to plow directly back into its thrower's face, causing the child to squeak and laugh amiably.
With a sinister sneer, Xavier tilted his head towards Gail and another snowball came flying, aimed for the feline's noggin.

Lavender had indeed began to explore the perimeter within the Nada Citadel more often. Although he still did not fit in with the human crowd within the huge city. Although Xavier didn't need to know that. The feline prepared to be out in the forests surrounding the city, nesting in trees or his own crafted dens. The cold iron walls of Nada Citadel felt more like a prison than 'home'.
The man watched the young children toss around snowballs at each other as though it was the best thing to happen to them all year. He didn't quite understand their little game. "Xav, why are they--" Before the feline could even get a question out, another ball of frozen water and ice was hurled at his face, causing the cat to shake his head and bring his hands to his face in an attempt to wipe away the bits of snow.
Snow was known for being cold and Lavender was experiencing that fact first hand. "Xavier, I don't like this 'snowball fight' business." He complained as he used his sleeve to dry his face before turning to the dragon, oblivious to the gesture Xavier had given to the kids a few moments earlier. "How can you deal with this cold?" One sole jacket was not enough to block out the frigid temperatures. Lavender had seen some humans keep warm by sitting in front of fires, yet he'd rather freeze than be burned alive.
He looked around before resting his feline green gaze on his companion. "Wanna go somewhere else?" He purred as he playfully punched the man in his shoulder. The two legendaries, although sharing many differences, had developed quite the friendship over the last few months, something that had not been expected from the day that Latios had saved Gaillardia from a near fatal event.

Despite Lavender's unamused reaction, Xavier couldn't help but chuckle as he aided the feline in his efforts to dust the snow off of him. He tweaked one of Lavender's bangs before pulling away, scrutinizing the scenery with a soft 'hmmm'. There wasn't much going on it seemed like, but he supposed there was that human gig nearby...
"I think they're having some sort of gala nearby, although thats invite only..." he paused then and shuffled in his pockets, a small 'oh' forming on his lips as he withdrew a fancy slip of paper. "Thats what this thing was, ah? See?" he waved the parchment at Lavender. "Being an exterminator has its good tidings! After all, who wouldn't want to spend an evening dancing around muggy humans..." he muttered with a chuckle, looking the invitation over.
"Although, it ought to be interesting..." he mused, glancing over to Gail with a shrug. "If yer up to it we'd have to get changed into fancier garb at my place, but s'up to you."

Lavender appreciated the gesture from his friend. Snow wasn't exactly something that he wanted thrown into his face, especially not by mischievous little children. It was a shame that he couldn't groom himself like he would have done if he had been in his divine form outside the walls of the city.
Gala? The man had heard the word passing around on the lips of humans every now and again. Of course, the feline wanted nothing to do with fancy human get-togethers. He simply did not fit in with them for he was always seemed awkward and out of place. Xavier usually tried to force the man into human society, but it didn't always work as planned. "What's a Gala, Xavier?" He asked as he casually moved behind his companion as one of the young children began to pack yet another snowball.
Well I wouldn't want to spend an afternoon dancing around humans! He thought to himself in response to the dragon's comment. As soon as the dragon offered to invite the feline, Lavender began to shake his head as a 'no'. "No, no that's okay! I should be heading back home soon, you know the plants might need ah...uhh.." It was then that the god remembered that the majority of the foliage had withered away during the season.
He didn't have an excuse this time.

Xavier knew the feline well enough to know he was blatantly lying, but he didn't press the issue. Instead, he snorted and shrugged, peering sideways at Lavender with a perked brow. "It must be such a chore to tend to all of those plants, especially when they're all dormant and covered in snow." he jeered with a chuckle.
"Thats fine, though." He added, crumpling the invitation and stuffing it back into the depths of his pocket; he might drop by himself later, but he wouldn't drag Lavender along. That was another thing that had seemed to change over the course of the months he had known the other legendary; he stopped dragging him around to events if he didn't want to go, or at least Xav cut down on it. A mutual respect, of sorts.
"Have you ever gone sledding?" Xavier suddenly asked, snagging Gail by the hand and leading him aimlessly off down the path, away from the children. "I haven't but it seems pretty fun."

Had he not just expressed how much he hated snow? "Sledding?" He echoed as he was tugged away by the hand, passed the children, his feet stepping on the delicate frozen substance underfoot.
A cautious green eye kept a lookout for any suspicious children aiming to throw any frozen snowballs his way. How would they like it to have such a thing hurled into their face? The sound of laughter flooded his ears but gradually faded as they came to a snowy area that had a few hills. Was this the park? Gaillardia couldn't tell anything apart once winter had left its mark upon the landscape. The feline gently tugged his hand away from his friend's, he may have been purring softly while holding the man's hand when he wasn't too focused on the children and their snowball fight. "So, what do we have to do?" He asked, his lips making the smallest of frowns as he visually showed his confusion. "I hope it doesn't involve throwing snowballs at each other." He asked as he stepped around the dragon and shoved the toe of his shoe into the snow, twisting it to make a small hole in the icy layer.
As Lavender stood near his friend, away from the expressive laughter and watchful eyes of the humans, he could hear his heart pumping loudly from within his chest, roaring in his ears. Perhaps it was because he was alone yet again with the Hoenn god, yet was that anything truly new? Perhaps it was the cold, yet beautiful environment that engulfed them both with a single, icy cold grip.
And then, a goofy grin appeared on the gods face that radiated happiness, a happiness that he didn't even know the cause of for he was content with just being happy without knowing why.
