HAZEL BIRCH
She honestly had little idea what she was doing, nor really what the purpose of visiting this... What did he call it again? A library, she thought. Silver had thought a book would be helpful in her learning a few things, since her amnesia literally took everything from her. She had no basic knowledge of anything, though seemed to find herself capable of recognizing a few things and being able to put a name to it. Trees, Pokeballs... Well, at this point, that was about all she could put a name to. She knew she didn't like hospitals; the word itself instilled some nasty, negative feeling within her body and she didn't want anything to do with them. However, she could admit now, that even if they didn't have....records? of her, her head had healed up quite nicely and it didn't hurt anymore.
Hazel had been found in the park a week or two before. She had been found battered, bruised, and half naked. The skimpy silk nightgown had holes in it and it was tattered and torn, and it had been really short. Alongside her snowy white hair, it had been stained with blood, changing the color easily to a striking crimson. She had remembered the pain that had shot through her head, the slim needle that had gone into her head to give her a numbing agent, and then waking up to gently prod at the staple like things that held the wound's edges together. She had been snapped at several times to stop touching it, but how exactly was she supposed to know that it would cause damage? She didn't remember much as it was...
"What purpose is such a place...?" She had asked herself that question several times on the way over, and even at the small Archen perched happily on her shoulder. The creature was incredibly young and couldn't speak, it seemed, which she was fine with. She recalled her name to be Giselle, though labeled her as Gizzy, and she was incredibly cuddly. She spent her nights on Silver's couch sleeping with the little thing curled up on her chest, the rough skin and baby teeth settled into her neck. For now, the Pokemon clung to her back and shoulder awkwardly as she paced between the rows of books. Everything was so shiny and different to her, completely foreign. She knew they were called books, but she didn't really know what to do with them nor really what they were supposed to do for her.
Hazel tugged at the jacket around her shoulders, which was new fabric, and the jeans felt particularly restricting on her legs. The boots felt awkward, too, but considering she could not remember wearing anything else, she supposed it was better than nothing or at least a lot better than what she had been found in. "Well, I suppose we won't know until we try, right, Gizzy?" The small bird gave her something of a smile and pointed at one of the spines. Her thin fingers crossed over it gently and pulled it from the shelf. She wasn't really sure what to do with it, didn't understand the scripted text that crossed it. Angels' Blood... She didn't know what the title meant nor what the content of the book was. She opened it to a random page and flipped it upside down in her hands.
The woman was honestly hopeless when it came to just about everything at the moment. She didn't get any of it and the way she held the book in her hands made sure that was clear to anyone else who looked at her as they walked by. She didnt' know when or if Silver was going to come back for her at some point, or if he was waiting out there for her. She didn't really care at that point, enamored and incredibly confused by the text on the pages, some of which she was honestly wishing were blank at the moment.
"Speaking." Thinking. "Pokemon talking.

Nearly hidden within the confines of the library, Oliver is reminded of why he loves being here. There were endless shelves that were filled with books, containing new worlds that were just waiting to be discovered; there was the scent of old and new paper, heavy in the still air; and the faint rustling of those familiar pages as different people thumbed through the worn books. The lanky blond felt entirely at home, as he always had since he was a child. It made him happy to have found a job here. His co-workers were kind to him, and sometimes he could pretend to have more confidence than he really possessed.
For a librarian, he was awfully shy.
Even when not working at the library, Oliver could almost always be found there. It was his favorite place in the world, where he would find some little empty corner to curl up with a new book to bury his nose into. He would be lost in that world for hours, and would only emerge if one of his Pokémon managed to drag him back to reality with a stern reminder to eat. Each of his team had a different method: Ace would poke his side gently with a hoof in an effort to not surprise him, Jing would ring a note into his ear until he paid attention to her words, and Roux… Well. The Plusle’s favorite way to jolt him away from the fantasy he had buried himself into was to jump onto his shoulder and yell loudly into his ear – which in turn would make him emit an alarmed yelp and practically fall over in his shock.
…Speaking of Roux, where was that little troublemaker?
Oliver lifted his head from where he had been scrutinizing the title of a book, red eyes scanning the low shelves around him for a hint of where the Plusle was. He gave a soft sigh of exasperation when he didn’t see her, and shifted the short stack of books in his arms into a more comfortable position, before he padded towards the next line of shelves. Hopefully he would find her before she managed to cause even more trouble.
Truth be told, Roux wasn’t intending to cause a scene that her trainer would inevitably would have to clean up. For once. No, she was on her best behavior today – at least until something more fascinating caught her attention. The small Plusle scampered across the top of the bookshelves, leaping from one to another with ease, as she amused herself with chasing her shadow. She had already gone to bother convince Jing to play with her, but the irritable Chimecho refused to be budged from her work, and Roux had already darted away before the other female Pokémon could start scolding her.
Now she was searching for something to entertain her, and while bouncing around with the children that came in was always fun, there was just no one else in the library that interested her. There were a few older teenagers, but she had never liked interacting with them. They were too boring, according to her. No fun at all; they were way too serious. Never wanted to play any games! Oh well, she could find something to do in the meantime.
Roux paused briefly when she caught a glance of Hazel, perched on the edge of a shelf as she turned her full attention towards the human female. Her paws steadied her as she watched her for a moment, before she pulled herself onto the top of the shelf and made her way towards her. The closer she was, the more Roux realized how confused the woman must be. She was holding a book upside down! Did she forget how to read? Was there some sort of secret language in there? Maybe there was a hidden message!
Oh, now she was far too curious to leave Hazel alone.
Leaping onto the shelf closest to the woman, Roux padded closer and grinned. “Hi!” she chirped, cheerily. “How come you’re reading that book upside down?”

Normally, Hazel seemed to maintain a sunny disposition on everything. No memory of almost everything that was around her, she tried to look at it all in a good way, that she would get to experience things all over again and get to do it gladly! But...there were the frustrating things about it, too. With everything she didn't know about, Silver seemed to get a little irritated, and she tried to be helpful in what ways she could. Then...there was the frustrating part of not knowing who she was, and she wanted that more than anything.
Silver had found her beneath that hazel tree, from which came her name, bloodied and beaten. She remembered the night before how she had been hurt, how the men had grabbed her and their hands had contacted her skin, how they had... The young woman shuddered and pushed the unpleasant thoughts from her mind, not wanting to venture there. Those memories, the only ones she seemed to have, were scary to her, unfamiliar in the already unfamiliar place. While she was curious about many things, she was also scared; she just wanted to remember everything and not get hurt doing it.
The harder she stared at the book, which was upside down in her hands still, the pages tilted rather funny between her fingers. The voice of the little Plusle scared her for a moment, causing her to jump and the wings of the little Archen on her shoulders to flap almost violently as she struggled to hang onto her shoulders. Hazel blinked her red eyes at the little thing, then smiled almost sheepishly. "Ah...well, I don't really know how to read." She admitted that. Some of the words she recognized, and she felt like she knew how to read. She could pick things out of it, but didn't really understand how to...read.
"Well, I don't really...remember how to read. I've lost my memory, and...there's a lot I don't remember. I didn't know this was called a book until you said something." She wanted nothing more than to be able to figure this out. Silver had told her these things were filled with all kinds of information, things that she could learn from, things that could teach her. Then, as she felt, maybe she wouldn't be so useless and would be able to help Silver with some things around the apartment, small as it was. She just didn't want to feel like a burden to him anymore. He had saved her life, there had to be something she could do to make it better. "I kind of need someone to teach me how to read again, or maybe give me some things to learn how to read."
Hazel tilted her head at the Pokemon, "Is there someone here that can help me with that?" Silver had mentioned something about that, too, but...well, she wasn't that good at remembering things. The back of her head throbbed lightly, and she remembered the stitches were still there.
"Hazel speaking." Hazel thinking.

@hazel / notes bleh / word count 570 Roux giggled briefly when she realized she had startled the girl, her mischievous grin stretching wider as Hazel jumped and the Archen perched on her shoulder flapped its wings. She hopped a little closer to the female, leaning precariously off the shelf as she tilted her head in an attempt to figure out what she was reading. “What’cha reading?” the small Pokémon asked, far too curious for her own good really.
She honestly was surprised to hear that the human female didn’t know how to read. Roux thought that most humans knew how to read by their age. Wasn’t that what they went to school for? Hazel looked to be around Oliver’s age, and he was an excellent reader. He always had been. The blond librarian loved books. Remembering her trainer now, Roux straightened upright, her ears twitching in thought. “Really? You don’t know how to read? How come?” Her question was innocent and without judgment. Roux was purely curious.
With the explanation Hazel gave her, the small Plusle frowned sadly. Losing one’s memory was a terrible thing, really. She moved closer to the female, raising a paw to pat at her arm in comfort. “I’m sorry to hear that. But you’re here, right? You’re learning again!” Roux was nothing but optimistic, offering a bright smile to try and make the woman smile too. “I hope you recover your memories one day.” She did not know the horror that Hazel had gone through as Beatrice. If she had, Roux would have wished that Hazel never remembered. But the tiny Pokémon hoped for the best.
At the question on whether there was someone who could help her learn how to read again at the library, Roux’s ears perked up, before she started giggling again. “Yep! There is actually!” she chirped. “My trainer can help you!” As if her words had summoned him, Oliver appeared then with a stack of books in his arms. The blond looked rather flustered, trying to keep his grip on the books as he moved towards them.
“R-Roux! Y-you better…n-not be g-getting into…t-trouble!” he called out to her. He was trying to sound stern, but the stuttered words broke up his speech pattern and enhanced what shyness he possessed. When Oliver finally caught sight of Hazel, he blushed a bright red as he tried to greet her without tripping over his words. Roux rolled her eyes playfully, amused with how her trainer was behaving, and hopped over to him. “Hey, I’ve been on my best behavior,” she insisted, though her grin seemed to give her away.
Oliver glanced towards her quickly, long enough to give her an exasperated look – to which Roux snorted – and turned back towards Hazel. “I-I apologize i-if…s-she did….a-anything, m-miss,” he said, bowing his head a little. The small Plusle at his side nudged his arm, giving him a mock pout. “I was fine!” She stuck her tongue out briefly, before grinning over at the woman. “She wants to know if there’s someone who can teach her how to read. Can you think of anyone here who can do that?” Roux’s voice was teasing, and Oliver blushed again, shuffling in embarrassment. “W-well…” he started.
Roux gave a great exaggerated sigh. “Honestly. It’s a wonder you can do anything without me.” She shook her head with a grin, waving a paw towards Hazel. “This is Oliver. He can teach you. I’m Roux! What’s your name?”

Honestly, the more she thought about it, the more...embarrassed she was about the fact that she couldn't read anything put in front of her. She wished desperately that she could remember what was going on in her life, where she came from, because she knew that would make it easier on some people, like Silver. He was kind to take her in, despite his abrasive attitude. "Not having any memory of anything is...hard." That was an understatement. She literally had knowledge of nothing around her, especially words, they were just a jumbled mess on the hard cover in front of her. She smiled at the little Pokemon, "Right! I'm here to learn. I just need...help." That was the right word, right?
Part of Hazel wished she would never remember--those weren't horrors she wanted to face.
Hazel tilted her head curiously at the Pokemon, "Trainer...?" She didn't entirely understand the concept of the word, but there was a small idea of it in her head. She would understand eventually. Striking red eyes turned onto the blonde male as he approached them, scolding the small Pokemon with a stutter. She blinked in surprise at the red suddenly crossing his face, the broken greeting, to which she ended up giving a small giggle and a smile at him, "Hello." Hazel paused for a moment, giving a shade to her head, tossing the white hair around her face slightly, "No, no, she was just fine. She's...helping me." She seemed to struggle with the word 'help', as though it didn't register fully.
The young woman stepped forward almost eagerly at the Plusle's words, tilting her head at Oliver with a smile. "You can teach me to read?" She lowered the book in her hands, which she had no idea what it said, at all, an eager expression on her face. "I'm...sorry, I just. I lost my memory, and I don't...remember how to...ah, do...anything." Her hand lifted to thread through her white hair nervously. It was a rather nerve-wracking thing, having to ask everyone about everything and help for every little thing that she needed. It was almost...burdening, and she disliked the feeling sometimes.
"Oh! I'm, uh... Well, Silver and I came up with the name Hazel for the time being. Until I remember. So, I'm Hazel!" She turned her eyes back to the young man, smiling at him gently, in a warm way. She stepped closer again, not having much sense of personal boundaries in her amnesiac state, and felt like she needed to do something to say it was nice to meet him. "Oliver? It's nice to...mate...no, meet you! Oliver is a...lovely name." She said it with a sincere smile in his direction. She gave a bit of an uneasy gesture with the book in her hands, "I have no idea what this says, but...can you really teach me out to read?"
A fleeting thought passed through her head, He's pretty cute. And nice!
"Talking." Thinking. @oliver LAIKA OF GS!
